The food and staff are great, but I’m sure other reviews mention that. I think this place needs a special mention for being family-friendly. Their small kids menu has tasty options. They have a small table with a lot of toys for impatient small kids. There’s a large grassy area just outside the cafe’s windows and the playground is within site for older children. Also, the view is spectacular for adults. It’s a great place to spend a lunch on a road trip or have a dinner and drinks with a view, all while the tamariki play nearby. Oh, and I recommend the empanadas. The staff is mostly South American and this starter is especially great.

We came by for dinner when we were in Tekapo on a Monday evening. They were quite busy and we did have to book to secure a table. The restaurant is located inside the Dark Sky Project building. Once inside, the diner is located by the windows on the far end. There is a waiting area where you wait to be seated. The menu has quite a few interesting items and they seemed to have a South American flavour to them. Interestingly, the three-course menu is only available when you pre-book as a group. We ended up just making our own three-course meal. I had the lakefront cocktail and that was quite nice with the coconut and pineapple. We started with the empanadas. There were 2 empanadas of the three different flavours they had. I quite liked the sweet corn and cheese one but they were all quite nice. I had the tomahawk steak as a main and it was decently sized and cooked really well. The steak came on its own platter with a really tasty salsa and chimichurri. It came with mash and a salad on the side. I also got to try the BBQ ribs and they had a nice flavour and they were quite tender. I got the panqueque as a dessert and I really liked it. Tasty dulce de leche rolled inside a pancake that was bruleed. It was a nice place to grab a tasty dinner. Service was quite good considering they were really busy and there wasn't very much staff. The area did die down around 2000. The food was tasty and it was something a bit different.

I can count on one hand how many restaurants have actually cooked my steak the way it was ordered (medium rare), but I can confirm that this place is one of them. Delicious food, cool location and there is a giant telescope from the late 1800’s on display just a few metres from the dining area. Fantastic

Got the chicken dish and it was fairly filling. Located inside the Dark Sky Center. Has a nice view to Lake Tekapo and the grassy park in front.
